Dennis Bergkamp: Arsenal legend once finished 1st, 2nd & 3rd in same Goal of the Month competition

 The Amsterdam-born forward joined the club in 1995 and he would go on to enjoy great success in an 11-year spell.



He scored 120 goals in 423 games and helped the Gunners win nine trophies.

By the time he left in 2006, he had established himself as both an Arsenal and Premier League legend.

He managed to score three incredible goals within just four days back in 1997.

Three of the goals he scored that August were so good that he finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Match of the Day’s Goal of the Month competition.

Bergkamp would declare the goal the best of his career.

“It was one of those occasions when everything went exactly as I planned it in the second before it happened – the movement, the control, the finish”, the Dutchman told the Independent in 2009.

To this day, Bergkamp remains the only player in Premier League history that has finished first, second and third in the same Goal of the Month competition.
